Michael A. Signer Collection at LMU: Memberships and Associations

An appreciation of the eminent professor and rabbi, Michael A. Signer, and an appreciation of the collection of his books made available to us by his wife, Betty Signer.

Participation in Professional Groups and Associations

Rabbi Signer was a strong voice and promoter of dialogue, whether within Judaism or between those of different faiths and beliefs.  Here are some of the groups with which he worked over the years:

Los Angeles Priest-Rabbi Dialogue
Rabbi Signer participated in this ongoing relationship, and made pioneering breakthroughs through his teaching.
(Rabbi Alfred Wolf and Msgr. Royale Vadakin worked together in this long-lived and continuing dialogue; together, they received an honorary doctorate from LMU for their work.   The Priest-Rabbi Dialogue continues today, now co-chaired by Rabbi Elliot Dorff.)

Notre Dame Holocaust Project (see details about annual trips to Poland/Germany)

The famous missive compiled by Rabbi Signer and three others, stating the need for a shift in attitudes.  Posted at the The Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies (ICJS), Baltimore.  Among other things, the Institute offers "Reclaiming the Center" series of programs, which do not just focus on  comparing similarities between Judaism and Christianity, but in clearly discussing the differences.
