Angela Yvonne Davis (1944 - ) is a scholar, author, activist, and a Black feminist philosopher. She is the distinguished professor emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Davis was a member of the Black Panther Party, Communist Party USA (CPUSA), and founding member of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism CCDS). Davis co-founded the Critical Resistance, an organization dedicated to the abolition of the prison industrial system. Davis lectures and publishes books focusing on social movements, intersections of race, gender, and class, the prison industrial system.
