Introduction to Scholars @ LMU

Scholars @ LMU, William H. Hannon Library’s new research information management system developed by Elsevier using their Pure Portal, provides access to public profiles, publications, datasets, and other information about Loyola Marymount University’s researchers and their areas of expertise. Scholars @ LMU aggregates information about faculty and researcher outputs – including publications, projects, awards, teaching activity, datasets, press/media coverage, posters, and more – all in one place. Scholars @ LMU raises the public visibility of Loyola Marymount University’s research. This platform will reduce administrative burdens, support reporting of LMU scholarship, and showcase the scholarship LMU faculty.

Scholars @ LMU replaces Hannon Library’s faculty profile previous system, Selected Works/Expert Gallery Suite. Records of research output created in Scholars @ LMU will be automatically added to Digital Commons @ Loyola Marymount University and Loyola Law School, the institutional repository.

Due to the limited number of profiles in our licenses, term faculty (clinical faculty or full-time instructors) and staff who have publications or creative works they would like to display may request a profile by filling out the Scholars @ LMU Profile Request Form. If you have any questions, reach out to digitalcommons@lmu.edu.

What is the difference between Scholars @ LMU and academic social network platforms like ResearchGate and Academia.edu?

Scholars @ LMU aggregates and curates research output from various academic resources, ensuring automated, complete, and accurate faculty profiles. It also provides authors with a means to comply with open access funding requirements. By centralizing LMU’s scholarship on one platform, you can connect with collaborators across campus and beyond the bluff. In addition to your scholarship, showcase your activities, courses, datasets, grants, prizes, projects, and theses you have supervised. Scholars @ LMU is freely accessible.

Academic social network platforms like ResearchGate and Academia.edu also assist in disseminating research and building connections among researchers. However, it’s essential to recognize that these platforms are commercial entities. While they facilitate networking and content sharing, they may compromise your privacy and control over your work (including derivatives or translations).

Scholars @ LMU emphasizes highlighting LMU’s research and providing research management, while academic social networks focus on networking and sharing scholarly content.
