Finding and Evaluating Scholarly Sources

This guide is to support Dr. Muraco's CASA Program course for Spring 2019.

Scholarly Sources Using OneSearch+

Onesearch+ is a tool that searches the entire library catalog (all the books and e-book) and SOME of the articles at the library for your keywords. The keyword can appear in the title, abstract, author, subject, etc.

It is a good place to begin your research but you should try other databases like Research Library for additional articles that may be missed.

For more help using Onesearch, see our Onesearch guide.

TIP: Search Onesearch+ for academic articles by using the "Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals" checkbox on the left under "Limit To"

Can't Find An Article or Book?

If you know the title of the journal or newspaper...

  • Search the library's Journal List
  • Type the title, or the key parts of the title, into the search box
  • Select "title begins with", "title equals" or "title contains all words" from drop down list

Our holdings for that journal will be listed, including online, print, and microform holdings.  Choose the link that matches the date you are searching for.

You can also search for a journal in the library catalog.

If a journal article is not available at LMU in print or online...

  • Log in to ILLiad.  Interlibrary Loan articles are usually delivered by e-mail in 3-5 weekdays.
