The following instructions ArcGIS Online instructions were originally created for the class, The Environment and Economy in Chinese History (HIST 3820).
PLEASE NOTE: When working in ArcGIS Online continually save your work. (It does not automatically save or remind you to save.)
Map notes allow you to add textual information and images to your map. There are three types of map notes: points (which are like pins), lines, and areas (shapes and polygons).
Map notes can exist in different layers or be on a single layer. Creating multiple map notes allow you to separate your map notes into different layers. For example, you can create map notes to keep your notes organized by locations or type of notes (Map Note – Los Angeles vs. Map Note – Culver). This will also allow you to turn off certain map notes from being visible on the map. Scroll down to watch Working with Map Content to learn how to hide layers from your map.
Base maps serve as a background for your map to provide context as it is overlaid with different layers. Data Layers enable you to visualize geospatial data on your map. As with all information that you incorporate into your research, you must evaluate the data to verify that it is reliable and authoritative.
