LMU CIBE has sponsored their CBA business librarian, José Rincón for a travel scholarship to participate in the University of South Carolina CIBER FDIB to Africa.
University of South Carolina’s Center for International Business Education and Research offered a Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) program in Africa which included travel to Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. Some participants traveled to Namibia. Participants experienced firsthand the unique business opportunities and challenges of Sub-Saharan Africa as they travel to countries in Southern Africa to participate in numerous business and academic site visits, cultural tours, and academic and professional seminars.
Twenty-one business professors and university leaders from diverse academic institutions across the United States participated in the program. During our time in the region, we engaged with multinational and local businesses, government and non-government organizations, and academic institutions. We also visited cultural sites to gain a deeper understanding of the business environment in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program’s learning objectives included understanding local market dynamics and business practices, observing the operational and management strategies of successful companies, fostering cross-industry and academic collaborations, and gaining insights into the cultural, political, and economic factors shaping the region.
