Judaism: Web Sites

A guide for the theological study of Judaism and some elements of Jewish culture

Exploring the Web

By now you know the Web can contain really good information, but also skewed or misleading "information" ... or pure garbage. You can just dig around for a while, OR you can save time and get better information by seeing what sites other folks have found to be really good. In the box to the right, see some Expert Lists of links on Religion, as well as a Directory which pre-examines and describes good sites.

Useful Links

Non-Academic Sites

These sites are of interest, but are not suitable to be used  as scholarly sources for papers or projects in Dr. Klein's classes.  They may be appropriate for Jewish Studies classes, depending on the assignment and faculty guidelines.

Hebrew Bible vocalized, with texts

Includes parallel Hebrew and English texts, with clickable sound files for the spoken Hebrew.  Also includes Hebrew transliterated into Roman alphabet, so you can 'read along' with the sound files.  Created to help students prepare for their bar/bat mitzvah.  Neat!

Biblia Hebraica, 1906

Here is the text of the first edition of Kittel's Biblia Hebraica (sometimes identified as BH1), via the Internet Archive, hosted by the Univ. of Toronto.

The text was taken from the Bomberg edition of the Hebrew Bible, printed in 1524 in Venice, then the star of European printing.  The notes are aimed at a corrected text, with the Peshitta, the Septuagint and the text of the Samaritan Pentateuch used as sources.  The third edition of this work (1929-1937) reintroduced the Masoretic notes and the text of the Leningrad Codex.
