Overview
The Chicago Style supports two citation systems: the Notes and Bibliography system and the Author-Date system.
The Notes and Bibliography style is traditionally favored by the disciplines in the Humanities. Bibliographic citations are provided in notes (footnotes or endnotes) and usually supplemented by a bibliography.
The Author-Date style is recommended for the social, natural, and physical sciences. Sources are cited using parenthetical in-text citation and full details are provided in a reference or works cited list.
**Click on the links above for examples of how to cite in these different systems.
